Description
The Q Grader Course is a six-day program that provides experienced coffee professionals with an opportunity to deepen both their theoretical understanding and practical application of Coffee Value Assessment (CVA). Using research-informed, industry-standard tools and techniques, participants perform physical, descriptive, affective, and extrinsic assessments to identify attributes and evaluate coffees from multiple perspectives. Through rich discussions and a rigorous series of hands-on activities, this course centers real-world applications of CVA, equipping the experienced coffee professional with a comprehensive set of skills that can be applied in a variety of industry contexts.
Course participants who pass all assessments become licensed Q Graders, a key achievement for any professional seeking to demonstrate their excellence in coffee evaluation.
After completing this course, learners will be able to:
1. Explain key theoretical concepts in Coffee Value Assessment (CVA) and advise on the implementation of CVA in professional settings.
2. Conduct physical, descriptive, affective, and extrinsic assessments to comprehensively identify and document attributes in coffee.
3. Apply a high level of self-awareness and a knowledge of market preferences to evaluate a coffee’s value from different perspectives.
For registration, please contact info@bicerincoffee.com
This Q Course is being held at Bicerin Coffee Lab in Markham Ontario, Canada. The course will run from 8:30 am – 5:30pm.

I have made some good friends here, learned a lot, trained skills of tasting according to specialty coffee industry standard, and widened my world about coffee. Become a Q grader was my dream, now this dream is closer to me. I see myself progress everyday after the class, I will get certified someday.

This course opens my mind about the sensory techniques, and allows me to get more familiarized with my own senses. Before I took this course, my sensory system was not systemized, and I used to communicate coffee experience with random descriptors and people were often confused listening. After I got properly trained as well as calibrated, I can communicate without barrier, since I have a much more systemized sensory system and use accurate descriptors. I appreciate the experience of taking this course and would recommend anyone who wants to work in coffee to take this.

This is a wonderful course that helped me get more familiar with my own senses and build sensory techniques. Before taking the course, I could hardly communicate my coffee experiences, my descriptions consist of random subjective expressions and often confuse people. After getting properly trained and calibrated, I can now communicate with other coffee workers without barrier and my descriptors have become much more accurate. I would recommend anyone who wants to work in coffee to take this course.
